Not that I was around in 1960s San Francisco, as I wasn't even alive in 1969, but the fact as a small child my dad bought a copy of this album (around 1979), a Dutch pressing on the CBS label. I found it amusing my dad's copy (now in my collection) had a sticker that stated, "Not licensed for sale in the USA". It's amusing my dad thought this version was illegal to sell in the States, as he wasn't exactly an expert on such things.
