The chalumeau, forerunner of the clarinet, is in the spotlight on this album from Ars Antiqua Austria performing works by Christoph Graupner, considered one of the most important composers for the instrument. The chalumeau is thought to have been developed in the late 17th century by the same Nuremberg instrument builder who invented the clarinet and has been used by many composers of the Baroque and pre-classical music periods. It was not until the late Baroque era that the loud and powerful Baroque clarinet became more popular and the chalumeau slowly disappeared from the musical scene.

Gloria in excelsis Deo (Glory to God in the Highest), BWV 191, is a church cantata written by the German Baroque composer Johann Sebastian Bach, and the only one of his church cantatas set to a Latin text

Music was one of the main avenues of representation. The splendour of a composition and its performance reflected the splendour of a court, a city or a church. Missa Alleluja 01. Kyrie (2:10) 02. Gloria (6:07) 03. In Gloria Dei Patris (1:45) 04. Credo (3:16) 05. Et incarnatus (1:05) 06.
