Vowel Movement is actually new wave/punk fringe artist Holly Vincent (Holly & the Italians, the Oblivious) and Concrete Blonde's Johnette Napolitano. The two had actually toured together when the Oblivious opened for Concrete Blonde. Vowel Movement is a decidedly low-key and often lo-fi affair that finds the pair getting back somewhat to the duo's punk roots. The tracks have an unfinished, embryonic quality, lyrically ("Dinosaur"), musically ("Hitchhiker"), and sometimes both ("Las Vegas").

Holly Beth Vincent (born Holly Beth Cernuto in 1956) is an American singer, songwriter, t and record producer. In her youth Vincent played drums, guitar and sang in several bands and took part in the Los Angeles punk scene. The album Vowel Movement followed in 1994, as a collaboration with Concrete Blonde singer Johnette Napolitano. Vincent continues to write and record and recently has released albums mainly in digital format, including two collections of tech house music.

The pair had successfully collaborated previously for the films Underworld and Wicker Park. Napolitano contributed vocals to an album by John Trudell, and performs backing vocals in "Struck a Nerve" by Bad Religion on the Recipe For Hate album. Napolitano also performed the main vocals on the score of the Australian film West, written and directed by Daniel Krige.
