Every song is a quality punch in the face, but something’s missing. The X factor, or what you will, has gone hiding. And Samoth obviously isn't providing straight-ahead black metal on Ominous, the first full-length album by his band the Wretched End (which also includes drummer Nills Fjellström of Dark Funeral, In Battle, and Aeon fame, and lead rist Cosmo of Mindgrinder fame). Ominous, rather, is blackened death metal with elements of thrash metal and metalcore; Ominous is more death metal than anything, although it doesn't cater to death metal purists any more than it caters to black metal purists.

The Wretched End began as a collaboration between Mindgrinder/Windir guitarist-vocalist Cosmo and Emperor/Zyklon guitarist Samoth in 2008. The band released their debut, Ominous via Nocturnal Art ght Records in 2010. The album received worldwide praise; voted as one of the best albums of the year.
