Baby, Please Don't Go" is a traditional blues song that was popularized by Delta blues musician Big Joe Williams in 1935. Many cover versions followed, and the song been described by French music historian Gérard Herzhaft as "one of the most played, arranged, and rearranged pieces in blues history". After World War II, Chicago blues and rhythm and blues artists adapted the song to newer music styles. In 1952, a doo-wop version by the Orioles reached the top ten on the race records chart.

Baby Please Don't Go" was from his second known recording session, in 1935, for the Victor subsidiary Bluebird. This version was cut with a fiddle and washboard accompaniment, but it is the later 1941 recording, now named simply "Please Don't Go," with a fuller band and more contemporary sound, that is the version that influenced subsequent covers of the song. Here, his verse lines are sung in a call-and-response with John Lee, aka Sonny Boy Williamson. John Lee Hooker also recorded "Baby Please Don't Go" for Chess in 1952 and again for Riverside in 1959, but the song remains more closely identified with Waters.

The Blues "White Album". The conceit of this collection is that a bunch of blues musicians have been gathered together to pay a kind of tribute to the Beatles, some of whose music has roots in the blues, by playing some cuts from The Beatles (which just about everybody refers to as "The White Album"). Hmm. The album gets off to a bad start with a ponderous, leaden, dragging version of "Why Don't We Do It in the Road?," performed here by a group called "Jimmy Thackery and the Drivers
