6 Moments musicaux, . 80 (2000 Remastered Version): No. 3 in F Minor by Edwin Fischer. But first things first. Her voice gleams and is silvery in the finest sense of the 'German sound'. Though she never was able to pull off the Italian repertoire, she was a brilliant interpreter of Mozart and Strauss on the opera stage. In this album are represented some of the most important of the Schubert Lieder, as well as his Moments musicaux for piano. It is an investment you won't regret.
And in every performance, Schwarzkopf seems fond of Schubert but not unreservedly fond, as if Schubert's songs needed special pleading to make them succeed, a truly old-fashioned approach compared to the unreservedly affectionate performances of contemporary singers. Similarly, Edwin Fischer's playing is equally old-fashioned, albeit in an entirely different way. Fischer obviously loves Schubert's music and his playing is warm-hearted and true. Unfortunately, Fischer's playing is technically old-fashioned

Discussion: Schubert Song Recital - Schwarzkopf, Fischer. Esacede said: For Schubert there's only one giant and that is Fischer-Dieskau. True, that's what he is, and not just in Schubert: "The perfect artist," like Schwarzkopf, too, proclaimed. But if she's not a giant, she's the true and immaculate La Divina, and this disc, as a singular recital album, is just sublime. I saw Elisabeth Schwarzkopf twice in recitals in Paris in the 1970s. She has left an indelible mark.
