Joe Lean & the Jing Jang Jong were an English indie rock band based in London. The band are perhaps best known for failing to ever release their critically acclaimed debut album.
The band formed in 2006 when Joe Lean, then drummer with The Pipettes, decided he needed an outlet for the "effervescent pop symphonies" he had been writing. Drummer James Craig, Panda (bass), Tom Dougall (guitar) and Dom O'Dare (guitar) joined Joe for nearly a year of intensive writing and rehearsal before playing their first show early in 2007. They disbanded in 2009.
The album was mixed and mastered by February, but, as is often the case; the release date was pushed back a few times and ended up being scheduled for release ten months after we had made it. Although it's a good record and we're all proud of it, we know that after the amount of playing we have done since we made it, we can create a record that is much better, more exciting, more representative of our sound and generally more delightful to listen to. We feel we have learnt alot in the last ten months and that we have progressed as a band, so we want our debut album to show this. Thank you for your patience and support. Love Joe, Thomas, Dominic, Bummer and Panda Joe Lean & the Jing Jang Jong. Joe Lean & The Jing Jang Jong.
On the eve of release, the much-hyped band's plans go wring, wrang, wrong. Then they were the most ridiculed band in Britain, known for a singer who boasted about composing grime songs for the gamelan (that's Indonesian folk music, by the way). And now, it looks like Joe Lean and the Jing Jang Jong are hoping to be crowned the most confusing band in Britain

Joe Lean and the Jing Jang Jong have taken the drastic decision to scrap/recycle their debut album, stating that it was recorded as a contractual obligation after signing to Vertigo. The album was apparently hindered by delays, pushing its planned release back 10 months after it was recorded
History doesn’t record whether there was a Mr Lou Cipher in the audience, but whatever deal was struck, Joe Lean probably now wishes they’d all stayed in to watch The Apprentice that evening. Why? Firstly, because The Apprentice is top-notch telly.
