Open the Door is an album by Pentangle. The band had split in 1973 and reformed in the early 1980s. By the time this album was recorded, John Renbourn had left the band to enroll in a music degree course and his place was taken by Mike Piggott. The other band members were unchanged from the original Pentangle line-up: Terry Cox, Bert Jansch, Jacqui McShee and Danny Thompson. It was produced by John Chelew.
Pentangle, along with Fairport Convention, were one of the shining lights in the modernisation of British folk music in the 1960s. Rather than adding elements of rock music, however, they leaned toward jazz, supplementing twin acoustic guitars with jazzy drums and acoustic bass. In the UK, the band is probably best remembered for providing 'Light Flight' as the theme to the BBC drama series 'Take Three Girls'.
The Pentangle was the 1968 debut album of the band Pentangle: Terry Cox, Bert Jansch, Jacqui McShee, John Renbourn and Danny Thompson. It brought together their separate influences of folk, jazz, blues, early music and contemporary songwriting. One of the band's most commercially successful albums, it reached number 21 in the British charts.

Sample this album Artist (Sample). 1. 30. Play The Game. This gem was the best effort by the re-united Pentangle or at least 3 of the original 5 members. The songs are varied in mood and range from the tart Play the Game to moodier efforts such as Suil Agrar and She Moved Though the Fair to straight ahead songs from Bert Jansch. Some of this groups later albums have a few good songs but this one is good from start to finish. Brilliant change to country rock and blues, that was briefly hit upon on the album Reflection, and is a must have for Pentangle fans. One person found this helpful.
