He came to create his first masterpiece, 1982 debut album Music For Nine Postcards, following a near 10-year spell exploring the early potential of computer music. The album has long been considered a "must-have" for ambient collectors, despite high second-hand prices and very limited stock. Thrillingly, Empire of Signs has decided to reissue it on vinyl for the first time.

Music for Nine Postcards. Inspired by a series of window views, Japanese ambient pioneer Hiroshi Yoshimura’s 1982 album Music for Nine Postcards has a disarming presence, cutting sweetly into the listener’s reality. Sometime in the middle of composing the songs that would become 1982’s Music for Nine Postcards, the late Japanese ambient pioneer Hiroshi Yoshimura visited the then-new Hara Museum of Contemporary Art in the Shinagawa ward of Tokyo. He was taken with its pristine architecture, with its view of the trees in its courtyard from the interior.

Light In The Attic comes forth with a tight compilation of abstract numbers from Japan's ambient scene. This release is packed with subtle musical gems demanding inquisitiveness and attention from the listener, making the experience all the more rewarding.

Yoshimura, the legendary Japanese ambient artist who passed away in 2003, originally produced Music For Nine Post Cards as a demo of music to be played in the Hara Museum of Contemporary Art. It was recorded at home using a minimal setup of Fender Rhodes and keyboard. The label says more Yoshimura reissues are on the way. Light In The Attic will distribute Empire Of Signs, offering Music For Nine Post Cards individually and bundled with the upcoming 17853 Records reissue of Yoshimura's album Pier & Loft.
