Animal Style Records recently welcomed Exeter, UK’s Muncie Girls to their roster. The album’s bouncy catchiness is sure to be a hit with fans of Hop Along, Lemuria, Latterman, and RVIVR, but one of the defining characteristics of Muncie Girls is their ability to explore outside their immediate influences. Ultimately, what sets Muncie Girls apart is bassist and lead vocalist Lande Hekt’s unique perspective and its impact on her understated lyricism. What’s that? Album number two from the best kept secret in British indie is another banger? But important too? It’s probably possible to dislike a record that opens with the lyric, I’m so angry, I’m going to get a tattoo, that says ‘fuck Jeremy Clarkson, and fuck you too but not on this watch it isn’t. Oh man, it’s a shame if that passed you by. It was ace.

The UK trio and Band To Watch honorees craft hooks that are honestly so good that it’s not even fair, and it’s clear that they’ve lost none of that sharpness on their just-announced sophomore album, Fixed Ideals, which will be released at the end of August. Both of their album titles so far are Sylvia Plath references, and their music certainly matches the poet’s dramatic flair. Lead single Picture Of Health is a good example of that.
