I found this album to be far better than expected, some of the tracks with flute are reminiscent of early Jethro Tull, while others bring Velvett Fogg to mind. A gloomy atmosphere pervades the album, even on the blues tracks. Surprisingly,very good progressive gem! They were from Nottingham. The tracks has very inspirative arrangements which are fast and furious for some parts. The songs fusing elements of psychedelia,blues,jazz and prog rock. Looking at the album cover and reading the album title, you probably think Woody Kern is some kind of comedy act. Well actually he's not! Well then again maybe he is, but the Awful Disclosures of Maria Monk surely is unique and totally listenable. Any comedy presented here is subtle and can be dismissed if it rubs you the wrong way. Doesn't rub me the wrong way! Hey Humble Pie also put strange faces on their album covers and they certainly were no comedy band. Anyway this is some really splendid psychedelic blues rock. Maria Monk (June 27, 1816 – summer of 1849) was a Canadian woman whose book Awful Disclosures of Maria Monk, or, The Hidden Secrets of a Nun’s Life in a Convent Exposed (1836) claimed to expose systematic sexual abuse of nuns and infanticide of the resulting children by Catholic priests in her convent in Montreal. The book became a best-seller. Awful Disclosures of Maria Monk was published in January 1836.
