A good friend of mine has compared Ween to the Beatles and how the Beatles took all sorts of pop music and turned it on its ear. You kow, after listening to The Mollusk, it's not hard to imagine what kind of White Album these crazy motherfuckers from Pennsylvania could crank out one of these days. I am your professional marine tour guide, Clam Eater 3000, and today we will be taking a journey down the Australian beaches into the cool, mysterious waters of the prosperous Great Barrier Reef. A lot is awaiting us! Today, we are examining a strange breed of creatures that inhabit between the magnificent, colorful corals, known as "Ween".

It just isn't as explicit about its intentions. Nearly every song on The Mollusk has a nautical theme, buoyed by a heavy progressive rock influence. Several songs deviate from the theme - the synthetic new wave pulse of "I'll Be Your Jonny on the Spot" and the frenzied pseudo-country of "Waving My Dick in the Wind" are neither seafaring nor prog - but there's an unmistakable watery undertow to the record.

Mollusk unsurprisingly enough, is a sort of concept album, though it is a very loose one at that. Quite a few songs are based around nautical topics, as Ween had been traveling along the eastern edge of the United States. Even the songs have a sort of cohesive sound quality to them, even though it is literally impossible for such studio masterminds like Ween to stay in one place for very long. On Mollusk, Ween take their music to a (somewhat) more mature state, with plenty of acoustic guitars
