Lerner and Loewe’s award-winning story of a cockney flower girl transformed into an elegant lady is widely considered one of the greatest musicals of all time. When Lerner and Loewe’s My Fair Lady opened on Broadway, it collected six Tony Awards, including Best Musical, while the film version took home eight Oscars, including Best Picture. Based on George Bernard Shaw’s play Pygmalion, My Fair Lady is that rare musical by which all others are measured. Julie Andrews performs "Wouldn't It Be Loverly" in 1961 Laura Benanti and the cast of the Lincoln Center revival of My Fair Lady perform a. .

Don’t miss Lerner & Loewe’s My Fair Lady at Lincoln Center Theater, now playing through July 7 only! Directed by Tony® winner Bartlett Sher, this enchanting and incandescent (The Washington Post) revival was named the best Broadway musical of 2018 by The New York Times, Entertainment Weekly and Time Magazine

There are individual vocalists on the songs, which are performed in character as if from a stage production, but those vocalists are not identified individually. They are clearly professionals, and they sing competently, but their characterizations are not strong.

My Fair Lady: Overture by My Fair Lady Orchestra (1959);Cyril Ornadel. In MP3 cart View MP3 Cart. 2. My Fair Lady: My Fair Lady: Why Can't the English? by Rex Harrison;Robert Coote. The 1959 sound was not noticeably better, even if it was in stereo, but the vocals, particularly Rex Harrison's, and particularly "Why Can't the English?" and "I'm an Ordinary Man," were disappointing and inferior to the originals. Rexy had much more of a singing lilt to his songs on Broadway, while in the London album it sounds as if he is almost reading the lyrics, and without a lot of feeling.

She is now recognized as the singing voice of leading actresses on the soundtracks of several musicals, including Deborah Kerr in The King and I, Natalie Wood in West Side Story, and Audrey Hepburn in My Fair Lady, although her role was concealed from audiences at the time of the films' release. Besides her voice work in films, Nixon's career included roles of her own in film, television, opera and musicals on Broadway and elsewhere throughout the United States, performances in concerts with major symphony orchestras, and recordings. In 1956, she worked closely with Deborah Kerr to supply the star's singing voice for the film version of Rodgers and Hammerstein's The King and I and the next year she again worked with Kerr to dub her voice in An Affair to Remember. That year, she also sang for Sophia Loren in Boy on a Dolphin.
