Le Corbeau (lit. The Crow) is a 1943 French film directed by Henri-Georges Clouzot and starring Pierre Fresnay, Micheline Francey and Pierre Larquey. The film is about a French town where a number of citizens receive anonymous letters containing libelous information, particularly targeting a doctor accused of being an abortionist. The mystery surrounding the letters eventually escalates into violence.
Henri-Georges Clouzot (French: ; 20 November 1907 – 12 January 1977) was a French film director, screenwriter and producer. He is best remembered for his work in the thriller film genre, having directed The Wages of Fear and Les Diaboliques, which are critically recognized as among the greatest films from the 1950s. Clouzot also directed documentary films, including The Mystery of Picasso, which was declared a national treasure by the government of France.

Henri-Georges Clouzot was a French film-maker and famous director of thrillers. His first film was a romantic thriller, but Le Corbeau proved a sensation. Its baleful view of a French provincial town split by hatred and the intrigue of a poison-pen letter writer was interpreted as being blatantly anti-French and led to a virtual ban on Clouzot until 1947. The film was made by pro-Nazi interests; but the sense of destructive misanthropy now seems characteristic of Clouzot.
Le Corbeau was released in France on September 28, 1943 The film was released on DVD by The Criterion Collection
