The Puhdys (German pronunciation: ) were a veteran German rock band, formed in Oranienburg (Brandenburg), GDR, in 1969, although by then they had been performing together-with various lineups-as the Puhdys since 1965. Although they are especially popular in their native eastern Germany, the Puhdys enjoyed significant success outside the GDR, and were one of the first East German bands allowed to tour West Germany.

Without necessarily overusing electronics and manufactured sound, Die Puhdys bang out some excellent psychedelic tinged, garage proto-punk, in the vein of MC5 and the Stooges. Famous songs (such as Geh zu ihr, featured in the 1998 classic Sonnenallee) are not necessarily common, as most of the band's hits came later in their career; however, nearly all of the tracks are rebellious rock and roll classics.
