The Work Tapes is an album of demos recorded by vocalist Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple/ Black Sabbath/ Trapeze) and keyboardist Geoff Downes (Asia /Buggles /Yes). The sessions were originally recorded in June 1991, but did not receive an official release until 1998.

Glenn Hughes is best known for his work with Trapeze, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath. Geoff Downes is known for his multi talented keyboard skills with Buggles, Yes and Asia. This release was recorded in 1994 for an experimental Glenn Hughes solo album. The songs have a Stevie Wonder/Marvin Gaye soul influence, underpinned by Glenn's classic rock vocals. They are demos, raw and unpolished, yet highlighting Glenn's soulful vocals and Geoff's synclavier programming. The Hughes/Downes project never got off the ground, with the tapes gathering dust in the publisher's vaults
