zlem Tekin was born in California, United States into a Turkish-American family. Her father Talat Tekin was a prominent Turkologist at UC Berkeley. The Tekins moved to Turkey when she was four years old. Özlem grew up in Ankara, where she went on to study classical western music at the Hacettepe University Music Conservatory in Ankara, specializing in the clarinet. This album, Kime Ne (literally, who cares?), was eventually released in January 1996 to widespread critical acclaim. The first single Aşk Herşeyi Affeder Mi? (Does love forgive everything?) shot to the top of the charts. Other hit tracks include Duvaksız Gelin (Bride without a veil) and Herkes Şanslı Doğmuyor (Not everyone is born lucky). zlem Tekin then left Hakan Peker's record label and went to İstanbul Plak (Istanbul Record) which also had acquired other popular singers like Tarkan.

Rebellious icon of Turkish rock music, and one of the leading figures of female singers, Ozlem Tekin has proven herself in various genres of music, film, and television performances. on November 18, 1971, she returned to Turkey to start primary school. Her debut, Kime Ne, was released in 1996. Although produced with the general, polished approach of the '90s, Kime Ne was full of original hits. First single "Ask Her Seyi Affeder Mi?" paved the way for the rest of the album, which was mostly a mix of traditional instruments with Western pop formats - like "Sebepsiz Savas" or "Duvaksiz Gelin" - or just plain, alternative disco tracks, like "Yar Bana Varmadi" and cool rockers like "Herkes Sansli Dogmuyor. Leaving Peker's label, Tekin released her second album from Istanbul's Plak, home of the Turkish pop star Tarkan.
