Sir Thomas Beecham, 2nd Baronet, CH (29 April 1879 – 8 March 1961) was an English conductor and impresario best known for his association with the London Philharmonic and the Royal Philharmonic orchestras. He was also closely associated with the Liverpool Philharmonic and Hallé orchestras. From the early 20th century until his death, Beecham was a major influence on the musical life of Britain and, according to the BBC, was Britain's first international conductor.

Sir Thomas Beecham Conductor, London Philharmonic Orchestra Orchestra. 6. Act II: Polovtsian Dances. 7. Act III: Polovtsian March. The Beecham Collection: Operatic and Orchestral Excerpts. Naxos featured album.
Beecham was a great interpreter of Delius' music and did much to bring the composer to the notice of the public. This record, from 1958, is early stereo but the quality is excellent. I've owned the record since it first came on the market and still play it regularly, especially Brigg Fair and Fennimore and Gerda. It is a great introduction to Delius and also to the way Beecham interpreted it to such telling effect. This is superb: there have been many fine interpreters of Delius but none finer than Beecham.

This digitally remastered release from Jube Classic sees legendary British conductor Sir Thomas Beecham lead the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in an all-Sibelius programme. Renowned for introducing works by Strauss, Delius, and Sibelius himself to Britain during the 20th century, this release brings together recordings from 1955 of the tone poem The Oceanides, the Symphony No. 7 in C Major, and the highlight of this album, the exquisite Pelléas and Mélisande Suite, originally composed as incidental music for Maurice Maeterlinck's symbolist play of the same.
