Elton John One Night Only – The Greatest Hits Live is a live album released by Elton John in 2000. The album was recorded on 20 and 21 October 2000 at Madison Square Garden. An extended version was also released as a DVD, entitled One Night Only: The Greatest Hits Live at Madison Square Garden. The title is "one night only" because the recording equipment failed to tape most of the audio from the first night, leaving only the second night to be recorded as an album

Greatest Hits: One Night Only. Tumbleweed Connection. Hearkening back to the 1970s pop glitter explosion that made Elton an international treasure, it features major hits and well-known classics including Crocodile Rock, Elton’s first North American and his touching ballad Candle in the Wind. One Night Only: The Greatest Hits. It's hard to imagine the wondrous spectacles that were Elton John shows in the '70s. Decked out in the kind of campy dress that would make a drag queen call the fashion police, Elton pranced and danced across the stage like he owned it - because he did. But, alas, the '80s and a monstrous coke habit came calling, and when they left John was never the same performer or singer again

Riding on the popularly titled "One Night Only" bandwagon, Elton John surpasses his predecessors. With two previous live albums and countless 'live' songs smattered over the years, why this one? To be honest, it contains a nearly seamless performance with a nine person band. Only a few audience transitional applauses seem awkwardly mixed. The items that truly stand out are the number of 'guest' artists Elton has allowed 'on board'. Starting out with, "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" seems an odd choice, but you must realize that this album has been. There is an ironic moment on this album, as Elton sings "Candle In The Wind", a previously released "live" song single that did terribly poorly until it was redone for Princess Diana, making it the biggest selling single of all time. Give yourself a treat. Elton has it waiting for you.

But why is that necessarily such a bad thing? When you’ve got 24-carat gold winners like the tear-stained ‘I Guess That’s Why They Call It The Blues’ and the tragic tale of brotherly demise that is ‘Daniel’, you can’t really complain.
