Vitalij Kuprij (Ukrainian: Віталій Купрій; born July 7, 1974) is a Ukrainian-American pianist, composer, music teacher, and keyboardist for Ring of Fire and Trans-Siberian Orchestra. He resides in Reading, Pennsylvania and sometimes even at The Blue Falls Grove when he is not touring. Vitalij began piano studies at Kiev's Mykola Lysenko Music Academy where he studied with Professor Nina Najditsch.
Vitalij Kuprij, pianist and composer, has been the recipient of numerous awards and prizes. This band's roots date back to 1993 when keyboard wizard Vitalij Kuprij met guitarist Roger Staffelbach and, at the advice of Mike Varney (Shrapnel Records) teamed up with vocalist John West (currently with Royal Hunt). Along with Kevin Chown, bass, and the infamous Mike Terrana, drums, they recorded and released the first 2 Artension albums.
Artension is a North American neoclassical progressive metal band, founded in 1993 by keyboardist Vitalij Kuprij. The band split up after recording seven albums from 1996 to 2004, but reformed in 2016 with the intention of releasing an eighth album. It was sometime in '92/'93, when Vitalij Kuprij, who was studying classical music in Switzerland at that time, met Roger Staffelbach, a Swiss guitarist who was also studying at the Jazz School in Lucerne.
