Public Flipper Limited Live 1980–1985. Public Flipper Limited is the second live album by San Francisco-based punk rock band Flipper, released in 1986 by Subterranean Records. It features recordings from 1980–85. The title is a nod to John Lydon's post-punk outfit Public Image Ltd. Earlier the same year Public Image Ltd. had released an album titled Album whose title borrowed that of Flipper's debut release, Album. New Rules No Rules (2/24/80, San Francisco) (2:19).

Complete your Flipper collection. A career-spanning live double released before Shatter died from relapsing into an accidental drug overdose, this is a great document of unrecorded material that never made it to the studio. Standouts include the fatal "Hard Cold World," the dumb fun of "Oh-Oh-Ay-Oh," that classic Flipper shout-along "The Wheel" and, closing out the set, the lyrically wonderful "Flipper Blues.

Public Flipper Limited is Flipper's second live album, featuring recordings from 1980-85. Life (8/6/83, Berkeley) (5:42). The Wheel (2/6/82, San Francisco) (5:19). Flipper Blues (1/5/85, Toronto) (6:16).

2-CD set) Public Flipper Limited was originally released in 1986 as a double LP of live material culled from 1980-1985. The sound quality and playing are both a grimy, distorted mess, which suits the band just fine. Always alternating between endearing and abrasive Flipper left no room for the middle ground of 'like. The album title is a shot at John Lydon and his alleged plagiarism of Flipper's artwork for his own PIL and it proves that Flipper was never opposed to alienating its audience, no matter how sanctified.

The sound is messy and grimy, but that enhances the experience, but it's also easy to see that Album was without a doubt their benchmark record and that even the good material released after it (like this LP) couldn't equal its high (low?) standards. Track Listing - Disc 1. Sample.

A career-spanning live double released before Shatter died from relapsing into an accidental drug overdose, this is a great document of unrecorded material that never made it to the studio. Standouts include the fatal "Hard Cold World," the dumb fun of "Oh-Oh-Ay-Oh," that classic Flipper shout-along "The Wheel" and, closing out the set, the lyrically wonderful "Flipper Blues." Lots of banter between audience and band spliced in here, too; they add great, sometimes hilarious lead-in for the songs. (e.g. "Wow, is this ever a lot of fun.") Also, listen up for this live rendering of "Shine" with added saxophone. Surprisingly effective! As always, the vinyl release is the way to get as close to the stage as possible, and this Fundamental pressing is up to par for the job. The sound's got a nice, clear bottom-end to it; nothing gets in the way of the music, and I wish I could say the same for the majority of modern-day pressings I've suffered through. And these discs are over 30 years old! Go figure.Includes the infamous Flipper board game (illustrated with some MAD-like luster), where the losing players are told to give the winner of the game some of their real-life cash. Flipper Cards for the game board are true to form here. Promoter disappears after the show with the money? Minus 20 points. Spent the day sober? Minus 5 points; go back 3 spaces. All the Bud you can drink? Plus 20 points! Heh, once again, it's been designed with alcoholic consumption in mind, and I still haven't found anyone fan enough to play it with me.Another one for the shelf! PLAY IT LOUD.
