Matchbox were formed in Middlesex, in 1970 by Iain "Houndog" Terry (born 1950), Fred Poke (born 1949), Jimmy Redhead (born 1954) and Les 'Wiffle' Smith (born 1948). After 1978, the line-up consisted of Graham Fenton (lead vocalist), Steve Bloomfield (lead guitar, vocals), Gordon Scott (rhythm guitar), Fred Poke (bass guitar) and Jimmy Redhead (drums). In Australia, the band and album were dubbed Major Matchbox to prevent confusion with an Australian band of a similar name. Their last single, "I Want Out" (Brian Hodgson/Ray Peters/Tony Colton, 1983) from their album, Crossed Line, was produced together with Kirsty MacColl. They called themselves Graham Fenton's Matchbox. One More Saturday Night" (1982) - UK 63. "24 Hours" (1982). Riding The Night" (1982).

The album was recorded over nine non-consecutive days, between January and June 1964. In between the sporadic sessions The Beatles fulfilled their touring and filming commitments, with John Lennon and Paul McCartney writing some of their strongest songs to date. What's more, The Beatles refused to take the easy option and delve into their Cavern Club-era songbook, selecting some of the numerous cover versions in their repertoire to pad out the original compositions

Matchbox Twenty Heads 'North': Inside The New Album. The group's breakthrough debut album, 1996's "Yourself Or Someone Like You," topped out at No. 5 on the chart the following year, but spent a whopping 119 weeks on the tally. In 2000, the act issued its second set, "Mad Season," which reached No. 3 and earned its best single sales week - when it started with 365,000. Matchbox Twenty leads a total of four debuts in the top 10, with two of them arriving at Nos. 2 and 3. Powered by its No. 4 Alternative Songs hit "It's Time," rock band Imagine Dragons debuts at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 with its first proper full-length album, "Night Visions" (83,000). Next week's Billboard 200 competes with the same week in 2011 when: Lady Antebellum's "Own the Night" launched at No. 1 with 347,000 while Lil Wayne's "Tha Carter IV" fell from No. 1 to No. 3 in its third week (117,000; down 47%).
