This EP is great stuff, as is Dino's work as modern heads. Keep it up!

The last 12" on Adam X's own Sonic Groove label is a release to keep an eye on! Step 1 and Step 3 are two hard, rusty, but almost crawling in tempo stompers releasing high pitched, industrial and sharp sibilant sounds similar to sustained gas leaks on oil platforms in the far east. Oppressive, rolling percussion that isn't too fast or nervous, but just damn unstoppable and straight up evil! Step 3 is slightly more accessible, due to a lighter, overwhelming sequence which at certain points completely takes over the other ingredients. Step 1, however, doesn't even pretend to be taking any prisoners. A proper up do date version of the hard techno sound of the past. Great! Try the "Outflow Boundary" EP by Adam X from last year if you like these two.Step 2 and Step 4 are awkward, abstract excursions into techno/industrial/ebm territory, as both pieces display dense layering, far out noises and screeches, loosely connected elements coming together in order to forge creepy and challenging musical structures. Step 2 is my pick, with barely any percussion the track is so hard and heavy, like a gigantic life form cruncher working at half speed so your tortures and agony can be stretched to infinity.Step 4 has some submarine, subaquatic effects scattered all over, and puts an end to things in a relatively peaceful manner. Broken beats and glitchy rhythms to conclude this excellent EP, full of harder and sinister drive, which is not something we completely lack today, but unfortunately the words "hard" and "stomping" are frequently associated with mindless, indigestible 160+ bpm gibberish nourishing the philosophy that higher speed directly implies harder music.I am glad I stumbled upon this one. Far from the greatest thing you'll ever hear, but "Small Steps" has a lot to say in four tracks, and brings along something for the best of clubs as well as two treats for the demanding home listeners. A lot of DJs are already canning A1 all over, don't be without it.Great, challenging techno music that avoids the every day recipe and routine. Way to go!
