The Nite-Liters – 1973 – A-Nal-Y-Sis. A masterpiece of hard and heavy funk – from one of the best bands of the early 70s! The Nite Liters were a legendary funky combo that provided the backing for some of New Birth‘s best albums – but on their own, they were even funkier, and had a sound that was part JBs, part Meters, and all funky! This album may well be the group’s best – their last for RCA, and a set that really has them honing their edge incredibly.

Harvey Fuqua and Tony Churchill formed the Nite-Liters in 1963 in Louisville. When the band subsequently expanded to 17 members, with a pair of vocal groups and a instrumental ensemble, they were renamed New Birth, although different configurations of the combined groups recorded under both names name until 1973, when the "Nite-Liters" name was officially retired. Churchill, Austin Lander, James Baker, Robert Jackson (8), Leroy Taylor (3), and Robin Russell (2) were the original bandmembers.

The B side of the reissue contains a longer version of Happy Hooker than what is on the A side. It runs for about 1 minute beyond the fade-out of the A side version, and I believe it's previously unreleased. Unfortunately Cowboy is shortened by about half a minute, so the breakdown section is missing. The track fades out part way into the guitar solo.
