Scratching at the Surface is a music studio album recording by EVENT (Crossover Prog/Progressive Rock) released in 2003 on cd, lp, vinyl and/or cassette. While there is undoubtedly an element of sophistication on "Scratching at the surface" which was missing from the debut, this comes at the expense of originality. When listening to this album, I cannot help but feel I have heard it all before from the plethora of bands who ply the indie pop rock market.

The middle of the album is particularly strong, with "Won't Come Loose," "Siren," and "Into the Fray" delivering highlights. The group is not as inventive and efficient in the lyrics department. Some topics ("Siren" for instance) have been beaten to death long ago. That said, this album will pleasantly puzzle and entertain fans of quirky prog metal in the vein of Ty Tabor's projects - maybe even those still hooked on Faith No More's last two albums.
