voodoo child was originally on the :blues album and was very different much more laid back, less wah etc. even different riffs. a camera crew came round and said "hey jimi pretend to be recording" the band jammed on the original voodoo child and came up with the more familiar version - they liked it better, so recorded it as voodoo chile slight return and put it on a later album.
