When Frank Smith’s Aaron Sinclair moved to Austin from Boston a few years ago, Frank Smith ultimately released last year’s fantastic Before You Were Born. It felt like Sinclair had found himself some Texas twang upon his arrival, and integrated it seamlessly into his rock vibe. This wasn’t country-rock; it was clearly still retro alt-rock with just an accent of country on the top of it all. You could see a country band covering the songs and making them straight country, or a rock band covering them and going balls-to-the-wall with it, but Frank Smith managed to play both sides of the fence. It’s not a straight up tribute album to alternative guitar rock, but it tries to indicate that we should view it within the paradigm of Nineties rock. I see two problems with this. The first is that Nineties retro-ism isn’t cool right now, though pockets of it are getting hip again.

On their ninth album, Nineties, Austin band Frank Smith delivers some of the tightest, most powerful songs of their long career. Previously firmly rooted in Americana and folk-rock, the band leans in that direction now and then throughout Nineties, but most of the tracks present a different imagining of this stalwart Austin band-a forceful indie-rock outfit. Despite their name, the band is neither fronted by a guy named Frank Smith, nor contains a member by this name. At the fore of this quintet is Aaron Sinclair, whose distinctive growl helps define the band’s sound. Opening with the anomaly.

Frank is the debut studio album by English singer and songwriter Amy Winehouse. It was released on 20 October 2003 by Island Records. Production for the album took place during 2002 to 2003 and was handled by Winehouse, Salaam Remi, Commissioner Gordon, Jimmy Hogarth and Matt Rowe. Its title alludes to the nature and tone of Winehouse's lyrics on the album, as well as one of her influences, Frank Sinatra.

Frank Smith have a sound that is as vast as America – for, like the country they come from, they reconcile countless would-be opposites as songs from the back porch country are driven straight into the noise of the city, simple folk tunes are given the most intricately complex arrangements, and the freedom of the music is constantly pulled back the authority of. the beat.
