The Malmö Symphony Orchestra (Swedish: Malmö Symfoniorkester) is a Swedish orchestra, based in Malmö. Since 2015 it has its home in the newly built Malmö Live Concert Hall. The orchestra has a complement of 94 musicians. Since 2011, the orchestra's chief conductor is Marc Soustrot. His contract with the orchestra is through 2017. The orchestra was founded in 1925 with Walther Meyer-Radon as the first chief conductor, from 1925 to 1929.

He temporarily returned to his homeland to direct Fanny and Alexander (Fanny och Alexander, 1982). Bergman stated that the film would be his last, and that afterwards he would focus on directing theatre. After that he wrote several film scripts and directed a number of television specials. He became director of the Malmö city theatre in 1953, and remained for seven years. Many of his star actors were people with whom he began working on stage.
