Both bear the title Orchestre du Baobab. Rise to fame: 1973-78. The band continued to tour throughout Africa, popularising their combination of Afro-Cuban music and Senegalese traditions. In 1992, World Circuit reissued the 1978 Paris sessions on one CD, and in 1993 Stern's Music, another London-based world music label, released Bamba, a compilation of the band's 1981 albums. In 1998, the band's debut album, along with several bonus tracks recorded between 1970 and 1971, were released in the Netherlands as N'Wolof. In 1999, the German label Popular African Music released Roots and Fruit, a compilation of the band's 1970s recordings. Reunion: 2001-18 Awards. After being separated for 15 years Orchestra Baobab reunited in 2001.
Mo Bamba is a track named after Orlando Magic and former Texas Longhorn center Mohamed Bamba. He grew up playing basketball with Sheck and in this song, Sheck compares his experience as an up-and-coming rapper being targeted by labels with Bamba’s experience as a high school recruit being hassled by colleges. How did this song come together? Sheck Wes: I had a meeting with a friend of mine who worked at Nike at the time, and I was just talking to him about all my frustrations with the labels that were sold after me, the managers, the people, all the real and fake. But, then I started freestylin' but I was freestylin' about all the people callin' me, and I guess it was just what I was talkin' about, and I was frustrated about and I made this one-take freestyle about Mo Bamba and how I’m like Mo Bamba, like I’m a athlete. I was being recruited the same way as athletes do. So, that’s why I compared it.
Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba's days are celebrated in the major cities of the world, including Los Angeles, New York, Atlanta, and Rome where the Murid communities organise annual events during which they chant the poems of the Sheik and read the Holy Coran. This proves, if need be, that the message of peace Cheikh Ahamadou Bamba delivered to the whole world was a universal message. Today the place where he was exiled in Gabon is called "Holy Mountain," and people regularly go there on pious visits with ziarras to seek for some of the Baraka of Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba
