The album ranked number 12 in the UK Albums Chart and number 126 on the Billboard Pop albums chart. In February 1979, CBS released the single, "English Civil War", and in May the EP, The Cost of Living. In August and September 1979, the Clash recorded their third studio album, London Calling. during the production of the album. It contains The Vanilla Tapes, missing recordings made by the band in mid-1979 during the London Calling sessions, as a bonus disc, and a DVD featuring the making of the album, the music videos for "London Calling", "Train in Vain" and "Clampdown", and video footage of The Clash recording sessions in Wessex Studios.

London Calling, the third album by English rock band The Clash, was released on December 14th, 1979 in the United Kingdom and January of 1980 in the United States. London Calling was a double album, but it wasn't supposed to be. The band were angry that CBS had priced their previous EP, The Cost of Living at £. 9, and so in the interests of their fans they insisted that London Calling be a double LP. CBS refused, so the band tried a different tactic: how about a free single on a one-disc LP? CBS agreed, but didn't notice that this free single disc would play at 33rpm and contain eight songs - therefore making it up to a double album! It then became nine when "Train in Vain" was tacked on to the end of the album after an NME single r. .
