Album · 2000 · 4 Songs. The Greatest Hits of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.
The first two CDs document a single show in 1985, when Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and his "party" (as the qawwali group is known) offer two-and-a-half hours of music, ranging from the devotional Sufi Muslim material for which he was best known to the lighter love poems, or ghazals. While still the lead vocalist, Khan is very much a member of the group, weaving vocal phrases with the backing singers, and only breaking out for short, dizzying flights of improvisation, running up to the heights like Charlie Parker before returning.
