Morricone's best-known compositions include "The Ecstasy of Gold", "Se Telefonando", "Man with a Harmonica", "Here's to You", the UK No. 2 single "Chi Mai", "Gabriel's Oboe" and "E Più Ti Penso". He functioned during the period 1966–1980 as a main member of Il Gruppo, one of the first experimental composers collectives. In 1956, Morricone started to support his family by playing in a jazz band and arranging pop songs for the Italian broadcasting service RAI. He was hired by RAI in 1958, but quit his job on his first day at work when he was told that broadcasting of music composed by employees was forbidden by a company rule.

While studying piano and composition at the Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Rome, he befriended Ennio Morricone and formed a long working relationship, with Nicolai eventually conducting for and co-scoring films with Morricone

Impossibly rare Italian movie soundtrack from 1975. for 6 CDs in the earlier 90s, Alessandro Alessandroni founded the SERMI-label for his pet-projects, and Gianni Marchetti is said to have been behind the ARIS label, but also Bruno Nicolai (and Fiorenzo Carpi?) founded his/their own labels! Yes, labels, because he was/they were not content with just one, he/they had in fact two: GEMELLI and MPS (in fact I am not sure if CARPI also owned parts of these labels or if only lots of his compositions were issued on them).
