Lucifer's Friend is the first studio album by the hard rock band Lucifer's Friend, released in 1970. Ride in the Sky" (Hesslein, Lawton) 2:55. Everybody's Clown" (Rietenbach, Horns, Docker, Hecht, Hesslein) 6:12. Keep Goin'" (Horns, Docker, Hecht, Hesslein) 5:26. Toxic Shadows" (Docker, Hesslein) 7:00. Free Baby" (Horns, Lawton, Hecht, Hesslein) 5:28. Baby You're a Liar" (Rietenbach, Horns, Docker, Hecht, Hesslein) 3:55.

Lucifer’s Friend have now released a new studio album, Black Moon which is their first album since 2016’s Too Late To Hate. It is also the band’s second album since the aforementioned reuniting in 2015 with singer John Lawton, guitarist Peter Hesslein and bassist Dieter Horns all in the line up. 1. 'Black Moon' 2. 'Passengers' 3. 'Rolling the Stone' 4. 'Behind the Smile' 5. 'Palace of Fools' 6. 'Call the Captain' 7. 'Little Man' 8. 'Freedom' 9. 'Taking It to the Edge' 10. 'Glory Days' Featuring.

Although they would develop a more prog-influenced style, this debut album finds Lucifer's Friend living up to their sinister name by performing heavy, keyboard-textured rock in the vein of Deep Purple or Uriah Heep. It gets off to a thunderous start with "Ride the Sky," a punchy rocker built on a rumbling, guitar-fuelled melody reminiscent of "The Immigrant Song" by Led Zeppelin.

LUCIFER'S FRIEND released an (apparently) good album in 2016. For as much as BANQUET failed to impress me as a jazz fusion album, I recommend trying it nonetheless. Despite the change in musical direction, the Lucifer's Friend name had already big when this sixth studio album was released. To me this cassette meant so much as everyday I always visited the cassette stores in town to check new release of rock band at that time.

Lucifer’s Friend reformed in 2015 and since then has been playing high profile festival concerts such as the HEADLINE act on 4 Sound Stage the SWEDEN ROCK FESTIVAL and at the ROCK OF AGES and LORELEY festivals too., This NEW STUDIO ALBUM will be supported by an EXTENSIVE WORLDWIDE MARKETING CAMPAIGN and further touring activates. The band features core original members John Lawton (ex-URIAH HEEP), Peter Hesslein and Dieter Horns.

Lucifer's Friend was a 1970s German hard rock and progressive rock band who often incorporated elements of jazz and pop music. Despite the band's German origin and progressive rock stylings, they are not usually classified as krautrock. The British-born John Lawton (Uriah Heep 1977-1979) was vocalist for a group called Stonewall. Peter Hecht, Dieter Horns, Peter Hesslein, and Joachim Reitenbach were members of a band called the German Bonds.

All in all, Lucifer's Friend is a solid debut and a worthwhile album for any listener interested in the roots of heavy metal. Lucifer's Friend - Lucifer's Friend (1970). This album turns out not to be Quad. It was fraudulently labeled as SQ Quadraphonic to capitalize on the Quad craze of the early seventies. Still a great album though!

My gatefold copy has black and white labels. Not sure of this counts as textured, but the faces of the 2 men on the front are printed in a super high gloss ink and are both slightly raised from the sleeve's surface. The bloody drawings on the bottom of the back are printed in a similar way as well. Would this be the way this specific entry is, or do I have a unique pressing variant? I do know and have seen another version not listed here. It was a USA pressing in a non-gatefold sleeve and the record had Mercury Records labels. Any one else ever seen that one??
Moogura
Which band members were in the German bonds ? ?

This version looks like a bootleg - Billingsgate Records ceased to exist after 1975, so how could they have issued a cd in 1998?Just wondering...……
Black_Hawk_Down
I haven't compared this pressing to the original, but it has great sound and a nice sleeve (although not embossed like the original). One of the better done re-issues by back-to-back.
Rasmus
Unfortunately i think the sound is very compressed and dull compared to the German and the UK originals & the cover is not embossed like the German original, the UK was only a single sleeve. However the sound is OK if you don't have the originals to judge.

Melipra
As far as early heavy metal goes, you had the Zep, the Sabbath, the Heep, the Purple - and, you had this, unnoticed at the time & one of the most unheralded masterpieces of all.......
Gavirus
I have this exact pressing but side b is side b of Neu!'s first LP. Anyone else encounter such strangeness? Would this have some kind of oddball value due to the mispressing? It's weird but kind of a bummer since I can't hear the entire album.
Golkis
Yup, I"ve discovered this on my press also. Major bummer.
Alsantrius
Yes. Mine also. Thanks for solving the mystery of what was on side B - I thought it sounded familiar.

My issue says "Radio and Review Copy" on the label under the black and white figures. Does anyone else's?
