Miles Davis In Concert - Side Three. 2-2. Miles Davis In Concert - Side Four. In Concert (2xLP, Album, Gat).
Miles Davis was an American trumpeter, bandleader and musical composer. His major (without bootlegs, et. discography consists of at least 51 studio albums, 36 live albums, 35 compilation albums, 17 box sets, 4 soundtrack albums, 57 singles and 3 remix albums. Davis' initial appearances on record were mainly as a member of bebop saxophonist Charlie Parker's quintet from 1944 through 1947 and released on the Savoy label.
Of the myriad double-live sets Miles Davis recorded in the early '70s, In Concert: Live at Philharmonic Hall is the only one documenting his On the Corner street-funk period, which is immediately obvious from the cover art. Actually, in terms of repertoire, the material from Get Up With It, Big Fun, and A Tribute to Jack Johnson each takes up a greater percentage of space, but the hard-driving rhythms and plentiful effects make it clear which of Davis' fusion aesthetics applied.
Album · 1969 · 7 Songs. Originally recorded in 1964 and released in Japan five years later, Miles in Tokyo wasn’t issued Stateside until 2005. Davis was renowned for assembling great bands. This one had the rhythm section that would become part of his second classic quintet: pianist Herbie Hancock, bassist Ron Carter, and drummer Tony Williams. Also on this gig (on Williams' recommendation) was Sam Rivers; his avant-garde–leaning playing didn't appeal to the bandleader, which explains the 41-year wait for the release.
