I've been listening recently to a few complete recordings of Telemann's varied and delightful 'Musique de Table' collection. Competition is strong but this version from Harnoncourt and the Concentus Musicus Wien is my equal favourite along with that of Reinhard Goebel's Musica Antiqua Köln. The orchestral works - such as the Overtures, Suites and Conclusions of each of the three 'productions' – are given their full weight and meaning, with many subtleties, heartfelt and expressive touches, and a bit of rubato where appropriate.
Tafelmusik is a collection of instrumental compositions by Georg Philipp Telemann (1681–1767), published in 1733. The original title is Musique de table. The work is one of Telemann's most widely known compositions; it is the climax and at the same time one of the last examples of courtly table music. The composition addressed predominantly wealthy music lovers.
