Omar Santana is mainly known for his Hardcore Techno and Breaks (he calls it "Hardhop") productions, but also released Dubstep, House and Techno. This tale from the hardside begins back in the early '80's in the metropolis that we know as New York City. John "Jellybean" Benitez's residency at The Funhouse Club in Manhattan had fulfilled the job of inspiring a whole new generation to take the sound of dance music well into the future and beyond. One of these disciples went by the name of Omar Santana. The time had come for Omar to create an outlet for his material, so H2oh Recordings the came into being, releasing it's own brand of Hardcore flava, the label built up a strong reputation for itself and such was it's succes that a sister label by name of Tricked Out Recordings was brought into operation to concentrate and add.

All about side B for me. Side A contains a crass, tacky rap, rubbish vocals and not too keen on the mastering. Just a bit too in yer face with the clanging snares and loudness. Not a fan. Admittedly, Boy Genius Mix is a bit of a vocal sample fest with untold edits which distracts from its essence a bit and could have done without them. It's a strange hybrid of styles though. Quite unexpected. The main backbone is 1980s west coast US style electro beats (even borrows Kraftwerk's Numbers) but with ravey Belgian/UK style synth riffs. It's a proper basher but does hint slightly towards trying to crossover into the mainstream once again, a touch. The Subterranean Mix is the best mix for me. Contains much more of an underground warehouse appeal. Still on the same tip as far as melody is concerned. The vocal samples seem to have a more subdued feel. It's trippier, it's more hypnotic and slightly dark. Contains a driving wobbly subsonic bass, synth pads, synth zaps and proper breakbeats on top of the four to the floor. I'm guessing it was suited more for a European setting of that period.
