A wide selection of Turkish funk & jazz from 1968-1978. An interesting compilation released at 2005 as LP. Exclusively compiled by Lasarus (r Voyage) & Roskow (Sonar Kollektiv/Jazzanova) This selection presented here in tracks by Erol Pekcan, Ferdi Oezbegen, Okay Temiz, Durul Gence, Mustafa Oekzent ve Orkestrasi, Emin Findikoglu with Nathan Davis, Erkin Koray,Fikret Kizilok, Aksu Orkestrasi and Erkut Tackin.

A fantastic collection of funk from the 70s scene in Ivory Coast – music that's every bit as heavy on jazz-based solos as it is on the grooves – with some especially strong sax lines that really give the tunes a lot of soul! The music here is nice and raw, and often very stripped-down. LP, Vinyl record album. Fela & Africa 70. He Miss Road (180 gram pressing). Knitting Factory, Early 70s. New Copy (reissue).

(1) Awful sound quality. I am telling this as someone who grew up with these songs so I know how they are supposed to sound(2) I am not sure how the original version is but this one has typos everywhere in the record. The ones I can see are the following (I don't have a Turkish keyboard so will just mention) briefly- Artist First name of Track 1 - Turkish character is used wrong- Artist Last name of Track 2 - Seriously?? Mustafa O"kz"ent?? At least have some sort of respect to and look up that name- Artist Last Name of Track 3 - Turkish character is used wrong- Song name of Track 3 - Turkish character is used wrong- Artist first name of Track 4 - Turkish character is used wrong- Artist first name of track 5 - Turkish character is used wrong- Song name of Track 6 - Turkish character is used wrong- Song name of Track 7 - Turkish character is used wrong- Artist name of Track 8 - Turkish character is used wrong- Song name of Track 9 - Turkish character is used wrong- Artist name of Track 10 - Turkish character is used wrong- Song name of Track 10 - "Sevgilim" not" Sevigilim"I am really frustrated that I paid for this piece of garbage label. I love the songs but can't enjoy because of this and the awful sound quality.

I've kinda got mixed feelings about this record.(i) Yes it's a bootleg, but my understanding is that the original was 'unofficial'. Surely we should be critical of that release too for not paying royalties to the original artists?(ii) The sound quality isn't great, but then again a lot of re-issues (especially Africa or South-East Asia) sound similar to me. I'm not sure I'd have picked up on this if I didn't know it was a bootleg, I'd just have thought that the masters are knackered or that it was poorly pressed.(iii) At first this was being billed by certain independent record shops as a 'warehouse find' or a 'limited restock'. They must have known it wasn't (the sheer number of copies that they had, and still have, for instance...) and are therefore complicit in this. I, and many others, fell for this, but then shouldn't we have known better ourselves? Maybe I should just be philosophical that anything that helps independents to stay afloat can only be good? Isn't the history of music littered with 'classic' bootleg albums? But then I know I'd find this really annoying if I had the original release and not the most recent version...Like I said, I'm pretty torn on this record. If you can get past all this the music is pretty good...
