Mantovani and His Orchestra ( 1905-1980) He was a popular conductor & entertainer in the "light orchestra" style. Mantovani is probably more associated with the light orchestra genre than any other person, and is well known for his signature "cascading strings". In 1912 he studied at Trinity College of Music in London. After graduation, he formed his own orchestra. By the time World War II broke out, his orchestra was 1 of the most popular in England, both on the BBC & in live performances
