For their 2008 album, see Bury Your Dead (album). In 2001, Bury Your Dead began as a side project of the band Hamartia featuring Brendan "Slim" MacDonald (guitar) and Mark Castillo (drums). With the metalcore sound of Hamartia growing tiresome to both Slim and Mark, they started writing less technical songs in their free time. Bury Your Dead spent the next several months touring and when summer approached they holed up in Massachusetts and did nothing but eat, sleep, and breathe the new Bury Your Dead songs, which would comprise their Victory Records debut titled Cover Your Tracks. The whole writing process this time around was a lot different than the last", said Slim.
Bury Your Dead is the fourth studio album by American metalcore band Bury Your Dead. It is the first record made since the departure of vocalist Mat Bruso and is also the first full-length album not to have all of the song titles follow a common theme. The album sold 4,700 copies in its first week of release entering the Billboard 200 at number 176.
BURY YOUR DEAD was back and stronger than ever. With their lineup in place and their goals set, BURY YOUR DEAD was approached by Victory Records in July of 2002 after their unbelievably brutal set at Hellfest and they signed a deal with the label the following winter. BURY YOUR DEAD spent the next several months touring and when summer started to approach, they holed themselves up in Massachusetts and did nothing but eat, sleep, and breathe new BURY YOUR DEAD songs which would soon be their Victory Records debut titled 'Cover Your Tracks'

I don't want to sound harsh, but this album and the more recent BYD release both no longer have the intensity of their old albums. I may have lost faith in this band forever, but I still remember how badass they were with their Cover Your Tracks and Beauty and the Breakdown albums. I've figured that the selftitled album would be very insane with bone-chugging breakdowns and riffs similar to what was on the earlier albums, but this release goes into more warmhearted variations of songs. But, to my pleasure, I hope Bury Your Dead in the future comes up with their old lineup once again.
On Bury Your Dead, the group is still harsh, loud, and aggressive, but this time around they seem more inclined to experiment with melody and a sound that's expansive as opposed to the more concussive Beauty and the Breakdown. Bury Your Dead is once again paired with producer Jason Suecof here, so perhaps the shift is due to Myke Terry, who joined the group after the departure of former vocalist Michael Crafter
