Although they're only remembered today for their 1964 hit "Hippy Hippy Shake," which charted on both sides of the Atlantic - the Swinging Blue Jeans were actually one of the strongest of the Liverpool bands from the '60s British Invasion; and, indeed, the Blue Jeans' earliest incarnation goes back about as far as the roots of the Beatles as the Quarry Me. That string of successes led to a good debut album called Blue Jeans A' Swinging, issued in July of 1964. They were only to enjoy one more charting single, a rendition of the Burt Bacharach/Hal David-authored "Don't Make Me Over," which only reached number 31 in 1965.

The Swinging Blue Jeans (who actually started out as the Bluegenes) were one of those acts whose exciting live performances did not translate well to vinyl. Not helping at all was a profound lack of original material. Over b/w What Can I Do Today? on Imperial 66154 in 1966; and in 1967, Now That Summer's Gone/Rumors, Gossip, Words Untrue on Imperial 66225 and Something's Coming Along/Tremblin' on Imperial 66255. Tracks 1, 2 and 6 are from their only Imperial album, "Hippy Hippy Shake" (Imperial LP-9261) which came out in 1964.
