The Top is the fifth studio album by British alternative rock band the Cure, released on 30 April 1984 by record label Fiction. It entered the UK Albums Chart at N°10 on 12 May. Shortly after its release, the Cure embarked on a major UK tour culminating with a three-night residency at the Hammersmith Odeon in London.

In April 1984, The Cure embark on the Top World Tour following the success of The Caterpillar. Smith, Tolhurst and Anderson bring Phil Thornalley and Porl Thompson on board during the tour. In January to February 1984, The Cure featuring Norman Fisher-Jones (bassist) performed at two venues (Munich & Zurich) prior to the release of the album or single. From November 1982, Smith was a member of Siouxsie and the Banshees, but after the release of Hyæna, Smith left the group in May 1984.

The Top album is, looking back, about the most difficult to talk, write about – a lot of it is me working things out of myself that were very unpleasant and ol. he modus operandi would generally be getting up at 6pm, going downstairs to the bar (we stayed in a village pub!), getting very out of it, going to the studio, getting even more out of it, recording, falling over and crawling back down the hill to sleep about 10am. I went on tour with The Cure and realized that the day it finished I had to go off with (Siouxsie and) the Banshees. I just thought, ‘Fuck, I can’t do this. I was shaking all the time – and couldn’t feel my legs when I went onstage.

The Top. Words by Robert Smith. I don’t care If only I could say that And not feel so sick and scared I don’t care If only I could say that If only my eyes would close. It’s Jesus brilliant You used to laugh Walking these gorgeous block. his top is the place Where nobody goes You just imagine You just imagine it all. Every day I lie here And know that it’s true.

That said, it's still very much a Cure record. Heavy on the percussion and quaint keyboard effects that were so big in the '80s, the melodies ("The Caterpillar," "Shake Dog Shake") are unmistakably Robert Smith. The big change this time around is his ability to fuse the paranoia and neuroses of former work (Pornography) with his newfound use of pop melody and outside influences (. world travels, sounds, instruments) to moderate success ("Wailing Wall," "Piggy in the Mirror").

Lyrics to "The Top" song by The Cure: I don't care If only I could say that And not feel so sick and scared I don't care If only I could . .It's jesus brilliant You used to laugh Walking these gorgeous blocks This top is the place Where nobody goes You just imagine You just imagine it all. Every day I lie here And know that it's true All I really want is you Please come back Please come back Like all the other ones do. Please come back All of you. Submit Corrections.

A . currently and it is rather sad considering this is the most underrated gem out of their catalog. Now this is a loaded gun term because there are some that say it is either "Wish" or "Bloodflowers" or even Emo Cure that is underrated. However, upon listening to all of these albums several times, they do not match up to the schizophrenic yet somewhat moody "The Top". Released during the aftermath of Simon Gallup leaving the band, the yin to Robert Smith's.

The Top Ten. 1 Just Like Heaven. Pornography was my first Cure album, and I knew from the first track that I would forever love them. The best song in the best album. Should be much more higher. The whole album faith is a master piece, the completion of what the band had not been able to do on 17 seconds (due to lack of budget) - it all falls in place - only charlotte sometimes is missing.
