Symphony No. 9 in D minor is the last symphony upon which Anton Bruckner worked, leaving the last movement incomplete at the time of his death in 1896; Bruckner dedicated it "to the beloved God" (in German, dem lieben Gott). The symphony was premiered under Ferdinand Löwe in Vienna in 1903. Disambiguation note: While logical to name this "Symphony in D minor, opus posthumous", that name usually refers to the "nullified" Symphony in D minor.
This album has an average beat per minute of 110 BPM (slowest/fastest tempos: 65/132 BPM). Tracklist Symphony No. 9 "From the New World" (Columbia Symphony Orchestra feat. conductor: Bruno Walter). 9 in E minor, Op. 95 "From the New World": II. Largo.
Title: Bruckner: Symphony No. 9 Artist(s): Bruno Walter & The Columbia Symphony Orchestra Recording Info: Transferred from a Columbia Records LP Recorded November, 1959 Venue: American Legion Hall, Hollywood, Calif .
Orchestra: Columbia Symphony Orchestra. Conductor: Bruno Walter. Composer: Anton Bruckner. Audio CD (November 15, 1988). Walter always finds the perfect compromise between contemplation and momentum in Bruckner, which is why there are no longueurs; his subtle control over dynamics and rubato is typical of his non-interventionist approach and there are no jarring gear changes. As with his Mahler, Walter's management of climaxes is overwhelming because he holds back until the last possible moment; thus there is no vulgar, premature bombast, yet neither is there any lack of urgency or tension in the Scherzo, despite what seems superficially to be its slow tempo. 9. CD. CA. CBS Records Masterworks. (unknown). Release group information. Artist: Bruckner; Columbia Symphony Orchestra, Bruno Walter.
