First Choice’s Let No Man Put Asunder must be one of the most sampled vocals ever, yet it still sounds fresh here in the hands of Alex M (Italy), who's taken the "it's not over" line and spun gold with it. But there's not just one good track here – there are three great ones!
Over (the track in question) starts with a percussive intro, with tizzy hi-hats and the bassline sounding good and funky, which sets you up perfectly for the addition of the vocal line: just a looped snippet at first, then eventually the whole line kicks in. It's fast paced and designed to get people moving, and I'm sure it will have the desired result as, although the line has been used many times, it's one of those samples that stands up really well.
Next up is Dan Aslow’s remix of The Black Twins & Roland Clarke’s Funky Soul Solution, a laidback disco cut-up with a great sample and smooth groovin’ beats to power you through the wee small hours. And then finally comes De Saronno with Renaissance, another smooth operator with a very sophisticated sound with yes, a great sample and a backbeat that's pure nu-disco goodness, with lush strings, funky guitar and some epic risers that work really well.
This release is quality all the way, with some great mood-enhancing music that's guaranteed to put a smile on your face – especially if you can actually remember the heady days when disco ruled the dancefloor.
