While Oscar Mulero transforms O/V’s full on industrial assault into a high quality off-beat tune reminiscent of, and not that different or distinguished from many other tracks released on his own Warm Up Recordings (think of EPs “CV is dead…”, “The nine”, “The damage done” series or “46”), Christian Wunsch has the heavy task of taking on Function’s lengthy lo-fi industrial classic Montage. The result is more than satisfactory, as he leaves the original’s trademark hook, and equips it with devastating block rocking beats and a filthy, fist in the air type bass line. Yes! If the original was an ideal opener for a dark and deviant set, then this remix is the peak time cut for the very same session. Talking about proper techno music, damn! Skipping right past the Olga + Jozef remix of Balance Of Power, which is some kind of an off-kilter tribal techno track which contributes little else than a percussion arrangement sounding like someone was beating Chinese chop sticks against a water pipe-line after a great meal, a full stomach and nothing better to do with themselves. We then come to the absolute highlight of this release: The Murdoch Effect. Those of you who have watched Stanley Kubrick’s “2001: A space odyssey” will most probably remember the scene when the apes stare in utter awe at the sheer might and impressiveness of the monolith. Well that about sums it all up. A fierce, daring and incredibly futuristic track which belts out all the grandeurs of techno music in a little under eight minutes. While a lot of the genre’s trends and demands are transitory, The Murdoch Effect has it all; a chock-full assault of mind bending effects, disturbing and outrageous sequences and nods to the uncertain future, unsymmetrical structure and anomalous yet accessible and effective beats, this track remains highly exultant and likeable even to the most casual techno listener, regardless of its desired purpose: be it an out-of-body experience in your living room or a cataclysmic outcry of overwhelming happiness in a club. Though I don’t really want to stir up no trouble or spark undesired debates, I’ll be bald enough and claim that this is the best track the duo of Polson and Dunton have ever recorded, and to my knowledge, at the time of typing this, remains an exclusive to this piece of vinyl!

Three remixes (by Wunsch, Mulero & Dalo aka Olga+Jozef) are typical industrial/hard techno stuff - good but nothing original. But it's the 65d Mavericks track which makes this record worth buying. Very dark & atmospheric, furthermore really great produced - definitely the best production by Polson/Dunton duo up-2-date.
