Taylor Deupree - Somi album flac

Somi is the new full-length from Taylor Deupree following 2014’s Faint (12k1073/12k2025). The release comes packaged as a CD inside a 20-page hardbound book of Deupree’s photographs that inspired the creation of the music  . When I was conceiving the ideas for a new album, that would become Somi, I wanted to take the looping another step further into the imperfect and started experimenting with hand-made or manually created loops. With this technique, instead of using any looping devices at all, software or hardware, I would simply play phrases over and over, at a specified temporal division, for the length of the composition.

Taylor Deupree (born April 30, 1971), is an American electronic musician, photographer, graphic designer and mastering engineer. He is most known for the founding of the 12k record label, along with his work as a member of Prototype 909, and his collaborations with Ryuichi Sakamoto, Marcus Fischer, Stephan Mathieu, Savvas Ysatis, Christopher Willits and others. In 2008, Taylor Deupree was the Président d'Honneur of the Qwartz Electronic Music Awards 5th in Paris (France).

Taylor Deupree's first solo album since 2012's Faint is the very distillation of a sound he has gradually been working toward for more than a decade. Making his name in the glitch scene at the turn of the millennium, his early solo work can be categorized as digital minimalism, made entirely (or at least primarily) with computer software. It sounds like snowmelt; there's a sense of something emerging from hibernation. Deupree has long been inspired by the harsh winters of his upstate New York home, and this album is no exception. His long-held fascination with Japan is also present, but in a subliminal rather than overt manner: the ringing single notes and washes of reverberation at times call to mind a temple bell or singing bowl.
