Bash-n-the-Code, later known as just Bash, was a musical derivative of the band Found Free, a 1970s mellow pop rock unit. The band was founded by Keith Lancaster in 1971, who was heavily involved with the group from its beginnings to its end. With sights set on the teen market, Bash-n-the-Code's albums featured dance-pop music, and their concerts were heavy on theatrics. Their first two albums feature husband-and-wife duo, Greg Sparks and Rebecca Sparks.

When Found Free decided their name was perhaps a little too 1970s for the times, they decided to rename themselves Bash 'N the Code and released this funky album as its debut. Definitely teen-oriented lyrically, but many of the songs do have a sophisticated sound musically, which more than makes up for much of the religious cheerleading. Fronted by vocalists Greg Sparks and Rebecca Sparks, this is the sound that funk bands from the '70s sounded like when they arrived in the '80s.
