Go is the Japanese word for "five". Go recorded two studio albums, Go (1976) and Go Too (1977). The band also recorded June 12, 1976 concert they performed in France, which was released as the album, Live From Paris. Steve Winwood's collaborations.

Stomu Yamashta, Steve Winwood and Michael Shrieve lead an impressive ensemble through soundscapes, unveiled in a variety of perspectives. Perhaps it is the international cast of performers that allows for such an unfettered consortium of ideas that brought together former Spencer Davis Group, Traffic and Blind Faith member Steve Winwood, as well as Santana co-founder Michael Shrieve and mid-'70s era Santana percussionist Yamashta - the latter of whom were key benefactors to the criminally underrated Santana.

The album Go, released in April 1976, was a fine achievement and Yamashta assembled a band featuring collaborators Steve Winwood, Michael Shrieve, Klaus Schulze and Al Di Meola to deliver a series of stunning concerts. The Parisian concert was captured by Island Records and was released as Go! Live from Paris in 1977. Exclusive discount for Prime members. Sample this album Artist - Artist (Sample).

Steve Winwood left Traffic around the same time Michael Shrieve left Santana. After an appendicitis attack in 1971 Winwood developed peritonitis, a condition that made the unstable lifestyle of touring unbearable for him. He left Traffic during the tour to promote the band’s last 1970s studio album, When the Eagle Flies, released in September 1974. In an interview to Rolling Stone magazine in 1988 he reflected on that period: I’d had enough of this album, tour, album, tour. Brown worked with Yamashta the previous year on the album Raindog and they were back at Basing street studios for the recording of Go. Interestingly this was February 1976, the same month Camel recorded Moonmadness, the topic of my previous article, at the same studio. Stomu Yamashata’s instructions were: I want to work with everyone live.

Conclusion: "Go" is quite a unique album that could appeal to prog, pop, soul, jazz and fusion fans alike. Jazz fans of course will want to listen to Di Meola and Shrieve. Fans of space music like Pink Floyd and Tangerine Dream will want to listen to it certainly. Rock fans that enjoy Winwood's will like this as well.
