Derrick Morgan (born 27 March 1940) is a Jamaican musical artist popular in the 1960s and 1970s. He worked with Desmond Dekker, Bob Marley, and Jimmy Cliff in the rhythm and blues and ska genres, and he also performed rocksteady and skinhead reggae. In 1957 Morgan entered the Vere Johns Opportunity Hour, a talent show held at the Palace Theatre in Kingston.
The Prince Buster/Derrick Morgan/Leslie Kong feud was the stuff of legends. It began in 1960, with Kong's release of Derrick & Patsy's chart-topping smash "Housewife's Choice. Buster was convinced that the sax solo was stolen from his own "They Got to Go," a song, incidentally, co-written by Morgan. The Prince was already aggrieved by the singer's defection to rival producer Kong, and thus took his wrath to wax with "Blackhead Chineman," a scathing attack on the singer, which also took aim at his producer.
