Hate Eternal have been punishing our ears for almost two decades now. In that time, they have entrenched themselves as leaders of modern death metal, pumping out albums laden with ferocity, riffs, intense drumming, and Erik Rutan’s unmistakeable growl. My favourite album is their 2005 opus I, Monarch, expertly mixing their trademark death metal with memorable riffs, and great songs  . The unstoppable attack is a strength of Infernus, while also being a weakness simultaneously. Sure, it’s probably their most hard-hitting album for thirteen years, but at what cost? Firstly, the riffs are not always memorable.

In 2011, the band delivered Phoenix Amongst the Ashes, which is undeniably a great album, but it just wasn't able to meet the bar which was set so extraordinarily high by their previous effort. So, now, in 2015, with a brand new Hate Eternal album released, one lingering question remains; is Infernus Able to live up to the greatness of Fury & Flames" Well, not quite, but it's doubtlessly a fantastic album, and one that easily surpasses Phoenix Amongst the Ashes

The album is unmistakably Hate Eternal, but it also sounds like it could be any Hate Eternal album. I've listened to it several times, but no song has really jumped out at me yet. Even as dense and technical as Hate Eternal's music can be, there is always something on each album to take root in my mind and make me identify with that album. Infernus doesn't seem to have that. I am going to keep listening to it in the hope it will grow on me, but I was hoping for a little more out of the gate. If you're a Hate Eternal fan, then don't miss this album
