Let's Dance is the 15th studio album by David Bowie. It was originally released in April 1983, almost three years after his previous album, Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps)
David John Haskins (born 24 April 1957, Northampton, England), better known as David J, is a British alternative rock musician, producer, and writer. He was the bassist for the gothic rock band Bauhaus and Love and Rockets. He has composed the scores for a number of plays and films, and also wrote and directed his own play, Silver for Gold (The Odyssey of Edie Sedgwick), in 2008, which was restaged at REDCAT in Los Angeles in 2011, and The Chanteuse and The Devil's Muse, 2011.
Never Let Me Down (2018) also boasts a string quartet with arrangements by Nico Muhly and a guest cameo by Laurie Anderson on Shining Star (Makin’ My Love). Let's dance) (Let's dance) (Let's dance) For fear your grace should fall (Let's dance) For fear tonight is all (Let's sway) You could look into my eyes (Let's sway) Under the moonlight, this serious moonlight. Let’s Dance is the first single and titular track from David Bowie’s 1983 album Let’s Dance. Produced by Nile Rodgers of Chic, Let’s Dance is a direct shift from the post-punk and art rock sound Bowie experimented with on his 1980 album Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps) to a funk, post-disco, and dance pop sound. This stylistic change aligned Bowie with the popular music of the ‘80s and led to Let’s Dance becoming one of Bowie’s biggest-selling tracks.
Let’s Dance may have had a ground-breaking sound and a popularity that Bowie clearly ached for, but it’s often a mundane album, as songs like Ricochet and Shake It mark time until a single turns up. (It’s possibly significant that one of the best songs here is Criminal World, a cover of a song by obscure Bowie clones Metro). But when Bowie growled, on another of the album’s excellent singles Modern Love, "I know when to go out, And when to stay in, And get things done," he wasn’t kidding. Let’s Dance was literally the template for 80s Bowie – blonde, suited and smiling
Meanwhile, Let’s Dance became his first platinum studio album in the . solidifying his return to full-on pop stardom. But for Bowie, the album had deep personal urgency beyond its commercial success: I really wanted that same positive optimistic rock & roll, big-band sound that was very impressionistic for me back when, he said. It’s got a hard cu. t sears through. In This Article: David Bowie, Let's Dance.
